Nigel Ogden
It was with much sadness that we learned of the death on 27th January of Nigel Ogden. As the long time presenter of BBC Radio 2's The Organist Entertains, Nigel was one the 'greats' of his generation in the organ world, with a career stretching well over fifty years. Phil has issued this tribute to Nigel.
It was with great sadness that news was received of the death of Nigel Ogden on 27th January and I am sure that the whole organ world will be mourning his sad passing.
We appeared on stage together on many occasions, the last time being my 40th Anniversary concert at the Tower Ballroom which Nigel compared. The last time I saw him would have been at the Grand Hotel on the seafront at St. Annes, where Nigel, Richard Hills and I chatted over coffee. It must have been summertime as I remember us all sitting outside in shirt sleeves!
Nigel Ogden was one of the world's finest musicians and he was certainly responsible for encourgaing many aspiring theatre organists by his long tenure at the BBC, presenting The Organist Entertains.
Nigel was a unique character, and gentleman, and I doubt if we shall ever see his like again.
