40th Anniversary Concert at Blackpool Tower

What a memorable occasion Phil's 40th Anniversary Concert at the Tower Ballroom was. Hosted by Nigel Ogden and recorded by Radio 2, congratulatory speeches were made by the Mayor of Blackpool and Kate Shane of Merlin Entertainments, the operators of Blackpool Tower. Many good wishes were received not only from within the UK but also from the USA and Australia.

Phil played a full concert featuring many of the pieces of music that have long been associated with the Tower Wurlitzer over the years, enhanced by use throughout of a large screen to give a close up of Phil's keyboard dexterity.  An onstage chat with Nigel allowed Phil to share with the audience some of his memories of the past forty years. The concert concluded with a 'fireworks' version of 12th Street Rag followed by an enthusiastic standing ovation by the audience.

As if over two hours on stage was not enough, Phil spent around an hour and a half after the concert signing autographs and chatting to members of the audience who queued up until nearly midnight!

There will be a chance to hear some of the highlights of the concert on The Organist Entertains on 4th and 11th July.
